Ramallah, capital of the Palestinian Authority during a period of transition, after the death of Yasser Arafat, awaiting the next elections.

In the refugee camp of Al Amari located on the outskirts of Ramallah, the quality of living has dwindled since the beginning of the second Intifada – insecurity, unemployment, inoperative infrastructures…

Alone with a little digital video camera and no translator, one has much difficulty comprehending this microcosm. But soon I would meet up with Darwish Abu Alish, Palestinian filmmaker out of work, willing to be my guide…

biography

Sylvain Calves has always had a penchant for film; he finished his secondary studies with a mention in cinema and audiovisual. He went on to attend many film workshops and directing school (ESRA in Paris), finally specializing in screenwriting and directing. In 2003 he directed his first films, a couple of documentaries: La coordination 93 on undocumented immigrants in the Parisian suburbs and another about a children's theatre troupe in Naplouse for Project Hope. Al Amari (After the Rain) is the most recent film from this young filmmaker.
